UMass Boston Student Arrested for Firebombing Tesla Dealership
Kansas City, MO — A University of Massachusetts Boston student, 19-year-old Owen McIntire, has been arrested for allegedly firebombing a Tesla dealership in Kansas City, Missouri, on March 17. According to federal officials, McIntire threw two Molotov cocktails at a Cybertruck, resulting in significant damage.
The incident took place while McIntire was visiting his hometown of Parkville, Missouri. Witnesses reported that one of the homemade incendiary devices exploded, damaging two Cybertrucks valued at $105,485 and $107,495. A second Molotov cocktail was recovered intact by investigators. The fire also affected two Tesla charging stations, each costing $550.
The Justice Department has charged McIntire with unlawful possession of an unregistered destructive device and malicious damage of property used in interstate commerce. U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Missouri highlighted the seriousness of the charges and emphasized that fires on such properties can lead to severe penalties.
Attorney General Pam Bondi made a statement warning any potential vandals: "You will be arrested. You will be prosecuted. You will spend decades behind bars. It is not worth it.” Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche reiterated that those responsible for violent acts against private property will face significant legal consequences.
FBI Director Kash Patel affirmed the agency’s commitment to addressing attacks on Tesla and similar incidents, stating, "These actions are dangerous, they are illegal, and we are going to arrest those responsible."
The case against McIntire is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Sean Foley and Trey Alford, along with Trial Attorney Patrick Cashman of the National Security Division. The investigation involves multiple agencies, including the FBI’s Kansas City and Boston field offices, alongside local law enforcement.
