Two Arrested After Standoff on Interstate 35 in Johnson County
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A lengthy standoff in Johnson County led to the arrest of two individuals and the closure of a section of Interstate 35 on Thursday night. The situation unfolded shortly after the suspects were implicated in a theft at a QuikTrip located at 95th Street, near the interstate.
According to Officer Danny Chavez from the Lenexa Police Department, when officers attempted to apprehend the suspects, they fled onto I-35. After a pursuit, the suspects eventually stopped their vehicle but refused to exit, resulting in a standoff that lasted several hours. This impasse prompted authorities to close down northbound I-35 just before the 67th Street exit.
Fortunately, police reported no injuries during the incident. The two suspects are now in custody, and investigations into the theft and the circumstances surrounding the standoff are ongoing.
