Severe Weather Hits Kansas City, Leaving Damage in its Wake

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A severe weather outbreak on Monday night, including radar-confirmed tornadoes, caused significant destruction across Kansas City and nearby regions. The National Weather Service (NWS) issued tornado warnings for several counties, including Benton, Buchanan, Henry, Pettis, and Platte.

At approximately 7:20 p.m., a tornado was detected near Deepwater and Warsaw. A subsequent report, just five minutes later, confirmed another tornado near Lincoln, moving rapidly northeast at 60 mph.

As of Tuesday afternoon, NWS representatives announced that a damage survey team was deployed to Henry County to assess whether a tornado had touched down. Additional evaluations are also ongoing in St. Clair, Henry, and Benton counties.

Residents reported widespread damage, including downed trees in Leawood and Kansas City, where one rain gauge indicated four inches of rainfall. Moreover, power outages affected thousands of customers in both Missouri and Kansas.

As cleanup efforts begin, the community remains on alert as officials monitor ongoing storm activity. Stay tuned to FOX4 for the latest updates on this developing story.
