Kansas Law Enforcement Memorial Services to Honor Fallen Officers
In observance of National Police Week and National Peace Officers’ Memorial Day, the State of Kansas is set to hold its annual Law Enforcement Memorial Ceremony on Friday, May 3, 2024, at the Kansas Statehouse. The ceremony will commence at 12:00 p.m. in the Second Floor Rotunda, followed by a wreath-laying at the Kansas Law Enforcement Monument, situated on the northeast quadrant of the Statehouse grounds. The preceding evening, Thursday, May 2, 2024, will feature the Kansas Law Enforcement Memorial Candlelight Vigil, beginning at 8:00 p.m. in the First Floor Rotunda of the Statehouse. A candle lighting ceremony will follow at the Kansas Law Enforcement Monument. (kansashighwaypatrol.gov)

Officer Jonah Oswald, Fairway Police Department
End of Watch: August 6, 2023
Officer Oswald, 29, was critically wounded during a gunfire exchange while attempting to apprehend suspects involved in a stolen vehicle incident. He succumbed to his injuries the following day. (kansashighwaypatrol.gov) -
City Marshal William J. Talbott, La Crosse City Marshal
End of Watch: February 1, 1904
Marshal Talbott, 55, was fatally shot while attempting to arrest a local merchant for public intoxication. (kansashighwaypatrol.gov) - Railroad Special Agent George R. Stewart, Union Pacific Railroad
End of Watch: July 27, 1918
Agent Stewart, 57, was killed instantly when struck by an eastbound train while performing security duties near Perry, Kansas. (kansashighwaypatrol.gov)
These events provide an opportunity for the community to honor and remember the sacrifices made by law enforcement officers in Kansas.
