The Kansas football team has bolstered its secondary with the addition of Syeed Gibbs, a transfer from Georgia Tech. Gibbs, a redshirt junior with two years of eligibility remaining, brings experience and playmaking ability to the Jayhawks’ defense. He started six games for Georgia Tech, recording 22 tackles and two forced fumbles. Prior to his time at Georgia Tech, Gibbs played at Rhode Island, where he earned several FCS-specific freshman All-American honors.
Gibbs’ addition addresses a critical need for KU, as the team faced a shortage of experienced cornerbacks after losing key players to graduation. He will compete for playing time alongside other promising defensive backs on the roster, such as D.J. Graham II and Jalen Todd. Gibbs is the second player KU has added from the transfer portal this spring, following defensive end Leroy Harris III.
