A week after arson attack on governor’s residence, Josh Shapiro reveals Trump phoned him

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro received a call from President Donald Trump over the weekend to discuss an arson attack on the governor’s home in Harrisburg. Shapiro described Trump as gracious during their conversation, which lasted around 20 minutes and touched on various topics in addition to the attack. The six-day gap between the incident and Trump’s call was in contrast to Shapiro’s swift condemnation of violence after an assassination attempt on Trump’s life during a campaign rally in July. Shapiro’s home suffered significant damage when a man allegedly broke in and started fires using Molotov cocktails. Trump did not strongly condemn the attack, attributing the motive to the attacker not being a fan of him. Shapiro hopes that Trump will reconsider his tariff plan to inspire confidence in investments. Shapiro has been critical of the tariffs, believing they will drive up prices and cause uncertainty, ultimately leading to capital staying on the sidelines. Trump’s call with Shapiro focused on a range of issues beyond the arson attack, with both individuals discussing the importance of certain topics to them.
