Former Uniontown teacher Breanna Hampton, 25, has accepted an Alford plea to a charge of furnishing alcohol to a minor for illicit purposes in Bourbon County, Kansas. This plea deal comes after a charge of unlawful sexual relations with a minor student was dropped. Hampton faces sentencing in December and could receive anywhere from five to 17 months in prison.
Hampton was arrested in February after the Bourbon County Sheriff’s Office found that she had an inappropriate relationship with a student while working at the Uniontown School District. The school has since fired her, but administrators clarify that the misconduct did not take place on school grounds.
An Alford plea means Hampton does not admit guilt but acknowledges that the state has sufficient evidence to convict her if the case went to trial. This development brings closure to the case, but has left many in the community shocked and saddened by the situation.
As the legal proceedings continue, the school district is focused on moving forward and ensuring the safety and well-being of all students. The case serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining professional boundaries and protecting students from harm.
