Local Pastor Doug Harris of Central Baptist Church in Deer Park, Texas has publicly opposed the candidacy of Dr. Tiffany Regan for superintendent of Deer Park ISD. In a sermon, Pastor Harris urged his congregation to act against Regan’s potential leadership, citing concerns about her personal life and moral character. He described her lifestyle as “un-Godly and immoral” and warned that her appointment would bring “wokeism, liberalism, and sexual immorality” to the school district.
Dr. Regan, a 30-year veteran of Deer Park ISD who most recently served as assistant superintendent for instruction, was named the lone finalist for the superintendent position following a thorough interview process by the school board. The public has until April 4 to give input on her appointment.
School Board President Jason Cable defended the board’s decision, emphasizing that Regan’s selection was based on her leadership, education experience, and dedication to student success. He also emphasized the importance of adhering to state and federal employment laws that prohibit discrimination based on personal characteristics unrelated to job performance.
When contacted by KHOU 11 for comment, neither Dr. Regan nor Pastor Harris responded. The controversy surrounding Dr. Regan’s candidacy has highlighted divisions within the community, with some supporting her qualifications while others, led by Pastor Harris, opposing her on moral grounds. The School Board remains committed to making decisions in the best interest of the students and district, despite differing opinions.
