Excelsior Springs, Mo. – The Clay-Ray Veterans Association building suffered extensive damage when a car crashed into the roof on Feb. 15, causing the closure of Memorial Hall. Board President Chris Stull expressed the association’s eagerness to reopen and resume operations and events that generate income, which they have been unable to do since the accident. The repair process is underway, but there is no set timeline for reopening as significant work needs to be done. The estimated cost of repairs is around $256,000, which is covered by insurance except for the deductible. The closure has been financially challenging as the association is missing out on income from events like bingo. Community members have been supportive, offering donations through Venmo or contacting the association directly. Stull hopes to reopen in May, although repairs are still ongoing. For updates on the repair progress, individuals can follow the association’s Facebook page.
