Former Olathe North High School choir teacher, Micah Horton, was sentenced to 68 months in prison for engaging in unlawful sexual relations with a student under the age of 16. Horton pleaded guilty to two counts of unlawful sexual relations and will have to register as a sex offender for 25 years. The charges against him stemmed from incidents that occurred between December 2023 and February 2024, while he was working at Olathe North.
Students reported to school authorities that Horton was messaging them on Snapchat, soliciting nude photos and videos. One student revealed that they had engaged in a sexual relationship with him. It was also discovered that Horton had been involved in a similar incident with a student from a previous school district. Due to the investigation, it was revealed that Horton had engaged in sexual activity with another student while working at Olathe North.
Horton, who initially pleaded not guilty, eventually admitted to the charges and is now serving his prison sentence. The Olathe Public Schools Board of Education terminated his employment in 2024 and prohibited him from all district facilities.
