The New York Giants have signed quarterback Russell Wilson to a one-year contract worth up to $21 million, with $10.5 million guaranteed. Wilson, 36, played for the Pittsburgh Steelers last season, posting a 6-5 record in 11 starts. This will be Wilson’s third team in three seasons, following stints with the Broncos and Steelers. The Giants released Daniel Jones last November, leaving Tommy DeVito and Jameis Winston as the other quarterbacks on the roster.
Once a top MVP candidate, Wilson’s performance has declined in recent seasons, with fewer touchdown passes and a lower passer rating since 2021. Last offseason, Wilson signed with the Steelers after an $85 million salary-cap penalty led to his release from the Broncos, where he did not play in 2024 but received over $37 million in salary.
Wilson started six games for the Steelers last season, with a 5-1 record in those starts, but finished with a 1-4 record overall. The third-round pick in 2012 has thrown for 350 touchdowns and 46,135 yards in his career, earning 10 Pro Bowl selections and leading the Seahawks to victory in Super Bowl 48.
The Giants, who finished 3-14 last season, will have the third overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft. Wilson’s signing provides an experienced quarterback option for a team looking to improve on its performance from last season.
