Clayton Simms and Ava Wallace Named KUsports.com Athletes of the Week


The University of Kansas has named Clayton Simms and Ava Wallace as their Athletes of the Week for the week of Feb. 24-March 2. Simms, a senior from Watson, Louisiana, won the Big 12’s indoor pole vault championship for the second consecutive year, with a season-best mark of 5.61 meters. Wallace, a freshman from Rockwall, Texas, hit her first two career home runs in a game against East Texas A&M, contributing to KU’s 23-0 victory. She continued her strong performance at the plate with a total of four hits and nine RBIs in four games. Both athletes stood out in their respective sports, track and field for Simms and softball for Wallace.

The selection of Athletes of the Week is a weekly tradition at the University of Kansas during the winter and spring sports seasons. The Journal-World staff selects one male and one female athlete each week to highlight their outstanding performances.
