Court orders Trump administration to temporarily restore foreign aid funding.

A judge ruled that the Trump administration must temporarily allow the disbursement of foreign aid in response to a lawsuit filed by nonprofit groups and other organizations. The executive order signed by President Trump last month pausing U.S. foreign aid was blocked, with the judge stating that assistance in place before Trump took office could not be suspended or canceled. The ruling highlighted the harm to American businesses caused by the halt in foreign assistance. The White House did not respond to the ruling immediately. The Global Health Council praised the decision, calling it a vital step in restoring U.S. foreign assistance programs. The judge instructed the parties to file a joint status report for further legal proceedings by the next day. USAID, the target of the pause in foreign aid, saw thousands of employees and contractors being fired or placed on leave. Trump and Elon Musk, who leads the Department of Government Efficiency, have criticized USAID as wasteful and even called it a “criminal organization.”
