The City of Kansas City, Missouri is preparing for a major winter storm this week, with city leaders vowing to be aggressive in clearing roads quickly. The city’s “snow team” of 400 employees has been busy loading up salt trucks and pretreating streets ahead of the storm, which is expected to hit on Wednesday.
Mayor Quinton Lucas emphasized the importance of staying off the roads during the heaviest snowfall on Wednesday to ensure safety. A previous blizzard in January left some neighborhoods waiting for plows, but City Manager Brian Platt expressed satisfaction with the city’s response overall.
With 10,000 tons of salt replenished and 400 trained employees ready to tackle the 6,400 lane miles throughout the city, Kansas City is prepared to work around the clock until all streets are clear of snow and ice. Residents are encouraged to report any unplowed streets through the my KCMO App.
More trucks are expected to arrive in the spring to assist with future storms, with plans to also focus on clearing bike and mobility lanes in the city.
