The Missouri Department of Resources has released the results of testing in Henry County, stating that public water systems in the area do not have identifiable issues with lead, selenium, or arsenic. Soil samples taken from the Davis R-XII school campus showed levels of contaminants below regional screening levels, except for arsenic, which was found to be above average. The department is now working with the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services to provide guidance on handling soil with elevated levels of arsenic. These findings come after two Henry County residents filed lawsuits against Evergy, accusing the company of allowing fly ash from the now-closed Montrose Power Plant to seep into the community, resulting in property damages and the need for continued medical monitoring for residents within a 10-mile radius of the station. The Missouri DNR continues to monitor the situation and provide updates as needed.
