The identities of the three soldiers on board a Black Hawk helicopter that collided with an American Eagle passenger jet near Washington, D.C., have been released. Chief Warrant Officer 2 Andrew Loyd Eaves, a pilot from Great Mills, Maryland, was well-decorated and had a background in the U.S. Navy before joining the Army in 2017. Capt. Rebecca M. Lobach, of Durham, North Carolina, was an aviation officer with flight experience and a volunteer at the White House. She was also planning a career shift to attend medical school. Staff Sgt. Ryan Austin O’Hara, a UH-60 helicopter mechanic from Lilburn, Georgia, was described as a lifelong soldier who had deployed to Afghanistan and received several awards. He leaves behind a wife and 18-month-old son. The soldiers, along with all 64 people on the jet, are presumed dead following the crash over the Potomac River. The families of the soldiers express their sorrow for the loss of their loved ones in this national tragedy, and mourn with the other families affected.
