The Navajo Nation’s Diné Development Corporation (DDC) has been creating successful companies over the past two decades, focusing on information technology, engineering, environmental, and professional solutions. Based in Arizona, Utah, and New Mexico, the DDC’s ten companies serve federal, state, and tribal governments, generating revenues that are reinvested back into the Navajo economy.
Vikkilynn Watchman, a tribal spokeswoman, emphasized the unique model of the DDC, which channels revenue off the reservation to support the Navajo Nation’s social impact initiatives. Through dividends and contributions, the DDC has provided $4.8 million to the tribe’s general fund and $15.5 million to various projects and programs, benefiting Navajo small businesses, veterans, and the broader community.
Harold Brown, the DDC’s business development director, noted the importance of innovation in delivering modern technological solutions to clients. With a focus on staying ahead of advancements in technology, the DDC has built an in-house innovation team to anticipate and meet clients’ needs in areas such as cloud technology, artificial intelligence, data science, and more.
