The Department of Defense announced a new annual media rotation program that will remove major news outlets, including NBC News, The New York Times, National Public Radio, and Politico from their Pentagon office spaces. The decision was made to provide access to outlets that have not previously had the privilege of working from physical office space in the Pentagon. The move was made following weeks of coverage regarding Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s behavior. The new outlets rotating in include One America News Network, the New York Post, Breitbart News Network, and HuffPost. The Pentagon Press Association expressed concern over singling out long-standing media organizations. The decision comes as part of an effort by the Trump administration to open up access to new media voices in press briefings. NBC News expressed disappointment over losing access to their broadcasting booth at the Pentagon. The memo did not provide details on the selection process for rotating outlets or the duration of rotations. The vacating outlets will still be members of the Pentagon press corps and will have access to briefings and travel with leaders in the Department. NBC News has used their dedicated Pentagon workspace for decades but it is unclear whether they will have the technical capability to broadcast from the Pentagon once they clear out their equipment.
