Carlos Estévez signs $22 million, two-year deal with Kansas City Royals

Carlos Estévez has signed a two-year, $22 million contract with the Kansas City Royals, with a club option for 2027. The 32-year-old pitcher played for the Los Angeles Angels and Philadelphia Phillies last season, finishing with a 2.45 ERA and 26 saves in 54 appearances. Despite helping Philadelphia win the NL East, Estévez gave up a decisive grand slam to Francisco Lindor of the Mets in the National League Division Series. He was an All-Star with the Angels two years ago.

Infielder Braden Shewmake was designated for assignment to make room for Estévez on the Royals’ 40-man roster. Shewmake, claimed off waivers from the White Sox in January, was a first-round pick of the Atlanta Braves in the 2019 draft but has struggled in his brief MLB career, hitting .118 with one home run and four RBIs in 31 games.

Estévez’s addition to the Royals’ bullpen adds experience and depth to the team, while Shewmake’s departure provides an opportunity for the organization to make strategic roster moves. Fans are eager to see how Estévez will contribute to the Royals’ pitching staff and if Shewmake can revive his career with a new team. Stay tuned for updates on these player transactions as the MLB season progresses.
