Spirit Airlines has updated its standards for passenger appearance, requiring customers to wear clothes that do not expose breasts, buttocks, or other private parts while onboard the low-cost carrier. The airline’s “contract of carriage” now specifies that passengers can be removed from flights if they are “barefoot or inadequately clothed” or if their clothing is deemed lewd, obscene, or offensive. Previously, the guidelines were more vague, only mentioning that passengers could be removed for being “barefoot or inadequately clothed” or wearing offensive clothing. The reason for the added language was not immediately clarified by Spirit Airlines. The airline operates in major U.S. cities and serves destinations in Central and South America.
