Olympic gold medalist Mikaela Shiffrin makes a comeback to the slopes

Two-time Olympic gold medalist Mikaela Shiffrin has announced her return to the Alpine Ski World Cup on Jan. 30 after being sidelined since Nov. 30 due to a puncture wound to her right abdomen. Shiffrin, who holds the record for the most World Cup victories in the sport with 99 wins, has been able to train and will be heading to Europe in the coming days. Last season, Shiffrin missed six weeks due to a knee injury, and this season, she has been recovering from a stab wound to her oblique muscle sustained in a crash in Vermont. Her coach has described the injury as unique and complicated to manage during the healing process. Shiffrin has had a successful career in the World Cup circuit since 2011, winning five overall titles and 11 discipline titles, with her most successful discipline being slalom. She has also won seven gold medals in the Alpine Ski World Championships and has participated in three Olympic Games. Despite not medaling in the Beijing Games in 2022, Shiffrin remains a dominant force in alpine skiing and is looking forward to returning to competition.
