Kansas women’s basketball faced a tough loss against Utah, with a slow start and rebounding struggles contributing to a 79-61 defeat. Despite a strong second half performance, the Jayhawks couldn’t overcome the early deficit they found themselves in. Utah’s hot shooting, particularly from behind the arc, and effective pick plays kept Kansas from closing the gap.
Junior Gianna Kneepkens had a standout game for Utah, scoring 30 points and making six 3-pointers. Meanwhile, S’Mya Nichols led the Jayhawks offensively with 26 points. Kansas coach Brandon Schneider noted that the team can learn a lot from this loss, especially from observing Utah’s offensive play.
The Jayhawks’ first quarter was particularly rough, shooting only 17% and scoring just five points. They struggled on the boards and were unable to contain Utah’s offense in the first half. While they showed improvement in the later quarters, it wasn’t enough to secure a win.
Kansas now looks ahead to their next game against Houston, aiming to bounce back from their recent losses. The team will need to work on their starts and defensive performance to secure better results in upcoming matches.
