Federal employees were warned via email that they could face consequences if they did not report coworkers in diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility positions that may have been disguised. The emails stated that efforts were being made to use coded language to hide these programs. Employees were urged to report any changes in contract or personnel descriptions that obscured connections to such ideologies. Failure to report could result in adverse consequences. Multiple agencies and departments received these emails with the same language. It is unclear what these consequences might be or how they would be enforced. The Office of Personnel Management issued a memo directing agencies to send these notices to employees promptly. Trump had previously signed an executive order to eliminate DEI and accessibility programs in the federal government, citing division among Americans, waste of taxpayer dollars, and discrimination. This move was part of a series of anti-diversity efforts made during Trump’s early days in office. In addition to this, he also signed an executive order recognizing only two genders and revoked an executive order prohibiting discrimination by federal contractors. Overall, the Trump administration’s actions aimed to eliminate diversity programs and promote a specific view of gender and discrimination within federal agencies.
