Trump announces removal from Paris climate agreement, reverses progress on LGBTQ+ rights • Kansas Reflector

President Donald Trump kicked off his second term with a flurry of executive orders, including a U.S. withdrawal from the Paris climate agreement and a mandate for federal workers to return to the office full-time. These orders were signed during an indoor inauguration parade at the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C., due to cold temperatures. Trump also rescinded 78 Biden administration actions, froze federal hiring, and declared a national emergency at the southern border. Among the most controversial orders was one that mandates the use of the word “sex” instead of “gender” in federal policy language and documents.

Environmental advocates and LGBTQ+ advocacy groups criticized Trump’s executive orders, saying they go against the interests of the American people. Additionally, Trump signed an order giving TikTok an extra 75 days to find a new owner, reversing his previous support for a ban on the popular app. Trump’s actions reflect his promise to act swiftly and decisively to address various issues facing the country.
