The Panasonic EV Battery Plant in De Soto, Kansas, a four-billion dollar project, is set to begin production after a two-year construction period. The plant, located on a 300-acre site within the former Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant, has already employed roughly 3,800 construction workers. Mayor Rick Walker, intrigued by the history of the site, is excited about the economic benefits the plant will bring to the area.
The plant is expected to create 4,000 jobs at full capacity, with 400 employees already hired. Governor Laura Kelly believes that the plant will attract other businesses to the area, creating additional employment opportunities. The project has also led to around $250 million in infrastructure upgrades, including new roads and sewer lines.
Walker highlighted the positive impacts of the project, such as faster development and reduced costs for the city. With hiring ongoing, Panasonic is looking to fill hundreds of positions. The plant’s progress is a significant boost for the community and an indication of economic growth in the region.
