Vivek Ramaswamy, a biotech entrepreneur closely aligned with President-elect Donald Trump, is expected to launch a campaign for governor of Ohio soon, according to sources. Even though Gov. Mike DeWine’s appointment of Lt. Gov. Jon Husted to a Senate seat cleared the way in theory, other Republican candidates such as Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost and state Treasurer Robert Sprague have intensified their own plans for a gubernatorial run. Yost has recruited a veteran of Trump’s campaigns as his general consultant, while Sprague has filed paperwork indicating his intention to seek the governorship. Despite these competitors, a veteran Ohio Republican strategist believes Ramaswamy’s wealthy background and ties to Trump could make him a formidable candidate. Husted, who had aspirations for the governorship, was appointed to the Senate seat by DeWine to avoid a potentially bruising GOP primary. Ramaswamy’s future with the Department of Government Efficiency, where he is set to work with Elon Musk, is unclear with regards to his political aspirations. A Democrat, Dr. Amy Acton, has also declared her candidacy for governor, expressing a commitment to addressing the struggles of Ohioans and providing solutions.
