Mayor Quinton Lucas discussed potential plans for a post-Super Bowl celebration for the Kansas City Chiefs if they were to win their third consecutive championship. Lucas mentioned that details would be shared after the need for a championship event, similar to previous years. The questions came after the Mayor made a bet on the upcoming Chiefs game at LC’s Bar-B-Q.
The topic of insurance costs for such an event was also brought up, with speculation that premiums could increase significantly. The Kansas City Sports Commission is responsible for handling the insurance for post-Super Bowl parades. Despite the uncertainty surrounding insurance costs and planning, Mayor Lucas affirmed that the city will continue to host major events with thorough risk assessments and collaboration with various departments.
The Kansas City Police Department clarified that they are not responsible for planning the Chiefs parade and suggested contacting the city for information on future large sporting events. The city council approved a funding allocation of $975,000 to the Kansas City Sports Commission for a potential postseason celebration if the Chiefs were to win the Super Bowl.
