Kansas City police have reported a 36-year-old man killed in a Northland homicide this week died during an argument, with the victim, Colton Stock, being involved in a murder case from 2019. Stock was found dead outside a house near NE 38th and N. Lister Avenue. He had previously been acquitted of a first-degree murder charge in connection with the death of Matthew Calkins in 2019, whom Stock claimed he shot in self-defense. However, Stock was convicted of two lesser charges and sentenced to two four-year prison terms.
Calkins’ loved ones expressed closure following Stock’s death, with J.D. Calkins stating, “They’re glad he’s gone. They hope he rots in hell.” Despite the emotional toll of the situation, the family finds some resolution in knowing that Stock can no longer harm anyone else. Another man found in the Northland home where Stock was killed was unconscious and is currently listed in critical but stable condition. The community awaits further updates on the case as investigations continue.
