Bühler, a global leader in food and feed production, has recently acquired puffing technology from Swiss manufacturer CEREX, expanding its capabilities in the pet food industry. The innovative technology uses heat and pressure to expand raw materials, offering a wide range of recipe possibilities for cereal and snack production.
Christoph Vogel, Head of Business Unit Human Nutrition at Bühler, emphasized that the puffing process is a game-changer in how they approach food production, meeting the evolving needs of their customers and fostering innovation in recipe development. Puffed products are gaining popularity among consumers due to their light texture, enhanced digestibility, and health benefits.
Bühler’s Cerex puffing technology is not only efficient, with over 95% yield, but also sustainable, using 50% less energy compared to similar systems. This helps reduce waste and supports sustainability goals in food production. The company plans to open an Application & Training Center in April 2025 at its headquarters in Uzwil, Switzerland, where customers can experiment with new recipes and processes using this technology.
With the integration of puffing technology into its portfolio, Bühler is well-positioned to meet the increasing demand for healthier and sustainable snacks in the market. The technology offers production advantages such as reduced sugar content, improved nutritional value, and extended shelf life for food products. The acquisition of puffing technology from CEREX highlights Bühler’s commitment to innovation and enhancing its capabilities in food production.
