Kansas City, Missouri, was the site of a tragic incident on Interstate 29 near 72nd Street, where a man was found shot to death inside a vehicle. The southbound lanes of the highway were closed for several hours as authorities responded to the scene. The victim, identified as 50-year-old Dennis A. Sharkey of Liberty, was discovered unresponsive in the vehicle and later pronounced dead at a local hospital.
Police believe that the shooting took place while Sharkey was traveling southbound at or near NW 72nd Street. The investigation was handed over to the Platte County Sheriff’s Office as it was determined that the incident occurred outside of Kansas City’s jurisdiction. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward and contact the Homicide Unit directly or the TIPS hotline. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information provided anonymously to the hotline.
The closure of the highway for investigation caused disruptions in the area, but authorities are working diligently to solve the case and bring justice for Sharkey.
