President-elect Donald Trump acknowledged that he and former President Barack Obama “probably do” like each other, despite their differing philosophies. Trump commented after a video of the two presidents chatting at President Jimmy Carter’s funeral went viral. Although they have been staunch political rivals, with Trump spreading the birther conspiracy theory about Obama, they have also had positive interactions. Trump has called Obama an “ineffective” president, while Michelle Obama referred to Trump as a serious threat. However, Trump has also expressed respect for Obama, calling him a “nice gentleman.” After his first victory in 2016, Trump and Obama had a cordial meeting at the White House, during which they had a positive conversation. Despite their public criticisms of each other, Trump and Obama seem to have a level of mutual respect and appreciation.
