A tragic midday fire on a family farm in Wyandotte County, Kansas took the lives of three horses, leaving neighbors and the owners heartbroken. The blaze, which occurred in a barn on a small farm near South 82nd Street, likely also claimed the lives of other small animals. KCKFD Battalion Chief Brandon Cole confirmed the deaths of the horses and the presence of animal control officers at the scene. Neighbors expressed sadness over the loss, noting that the family takes very good care of their animals and likely considers them part of their family. Though the family could not be reached for comment, the community mourns the loss of the animals. The fire was put out by five KCK fire engines despite challenging weather conditions, with some trucks getting stuck in ice and snow. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported among people involved in the incident. Fire investigators have not yet determined the cause of the fire.
