Kansas City residents Jacob Block and Eunice Carlo-Martinez have been charged with felonies related to the death of Abbi Schaeffer. Schaeffer was reported missing in May 2022, and her remains were found in April 2023. The defendants are facing charges of accessory abandonment of a corpse and accessory tampering with physical evidence.
Security camera footage shows Schaeffer entering Block and Carlo-Martinez’s home but never leaving. The couple was seen on video multiple times entering and exiting the house, moving mop buckets, and handling a large black box-like object. Investigators found photos and videos on their cell phones showing a similar box found at the crime scene.
Furthermore, Facebook messages were found indicating that the defendants had given Schaeffer fentanyl, leading to her overdose. The Medical Examiner’s Office could not determine the cause of death due to decomposition, but found fentanyl metabolites in the victim’s brain tissue. The prosecution requested a $150,000 cash-only bond for both defendants.
