Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) and the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) have recently announced significant funding for rail improvement projects. PennDOT approved 30 projects with $55 million in state funding from the Rail Transportation Assistance Program and the Rail Freight Assistance Program. This includes a $13.1 million grant to CSX for the rehabilitation of the 25th Street viaduct in Philadelphia County. Other major recipients include Wheeling and Lake Erie Railway and NorthPoint Development LLC.
Similarly, KDOT’s Rail Service Improvement Program awarded $13 million to 14 rail improvement projects with a 30% participant match requirement, resulting in a total investment of $18 million. Seaboard Energy, Cimarron Valley Railroad, and KYLE Railroad are among the recipients of these grants for various infrastructure upgrades.
These efforts demonstrate a commitment to enhancing rail infrastructure and services in both Pennsylvania and Kansas. The funding will support job creation, economic development, and improved transportation efficiency across the states. For a full list of grant recipients, visit the respective department websites.
