Gov. Laura Kelly has announced her plans to focus on protecting Kansas’ water supply during the upcoming legislative session. She aims to create a bipartisan, multigenerational plan that involves collaboration among various stakeholders to ensure the state’s water infrastructure is solid for future generations.
Kelly stated that she doesn’t expect to solve the water crisis immediately but wants to lay the groundwork for a long-term plan similar to the state’s transportation infrastructure. She emphasized the importance of addressing water issues now, rather than leaving it for future generations to handle.
The governor highlighted the need for cooperation among political parties and stakeholders, acknowledging that there will be opposition in the Capitol. Kelly also reaffirmed her commitment to fully funding K-12 education and enhancing the state’s transportation infrastructure.
Additionally, Kelly expressed her continued efforts to expand Medicaid eligibility in Kansas, despite facing obstacles in the past. She remains determined to push for reforms and improve healthcare access for lower-income residents.
