Park University withdraws proposal to de-annex portion of Kansas City

Park University’s campus will not be fully transferred to Parkville as originally planned, at least for now. The university had requested to move 80 acres from Kansas City to Parkville to streamline its operations, but Kansas City staff recommended denial citing concerns about potential commercial activities on the land. Park University spokesperson Brad Biles stated that the request has been postponed for further discussion with all parties involved. The decision marks a setback for the university, which had hoped to consolidate its campus and nearby property within the same city. Despite no specific development plans for the area, concerns about commercial activities using the land have been raised. Kansas City Councilman Wes Rogers is open to finding a resolution that works for all parties involved. The university remains hopeful to revive the annexation request in the future after further discussions with the City of Parkville and other entities.
