The Kansas Jayhawks’ special teams unit is undergoing a major overhaul ahead of the 2025 college football season. Both kicker Charlie Weinrich and punter Damon Greaves have announced their transfers, with Weinrich following the recent commitment of South Alabama transfer kicker Laith Marjan. With other seniors also moving on, KU will have a completely new group of kickers next year.
Weinrich, who lost a kicking battle to Tabor Allen this season, only kicked off once in 2024, while Greaves, hailing from Australia, had a more successful run as the team’s punter with an average of 40.7 yards per punt over two seasons. Greaves’ decision to enter the transfer portal was first reported by 247Sports. With Greaves and another punter, Grayden Addison, departing, KU will now need to find a new punter to pair with Marjan.
In addition to Marjan, KU also secured a commitment from high school kicker Dane Efird from Missouri. The team’s special teams units will see significant changes next season, with new kickers and punters stepping in to fill the gaps left by departing players. The revamp promises to bring fresh talent and potential to the Jayhawks’ special teams, setting the stage for an exciting season ahead.
