U.S. Capitol Police arrested James McIntyre, 33, of Illinois, for assaulting Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C. Mace stated she was physically accosted by someone supporting transgender rights, resulting in a wrist injury. Capitol Police did not confirm if McIntyre was an advocate for transgender rights. The incident occurred in the Rayburn House Office Building, and McIntyre was screened before entering. Mace introduced a measure prohibiting the use of single-sex facilities based on biological sex in response to Sarah McBride’s election as the first openly transgender member of Congress. Protesters opposed to Mace’s measure staged a protest last week. Mace emphasized that violence and threats will only strengthen her resolve.
