Police say Colorado dentist accused of poisoning wife’s protein shakes planned to murder detective

Colorado dentist James Craig faces new charges related to solicitation to commit first-degree murder and perjury in addition to the first-degree murder charge for the death of his wife, Angela Craig, in March 2023. The new charges stem from allegations that Craig tried to have a detective involved in the case killed. James Craig’s lawyer withdrew from the case just before the new charges were filed, but it’s unclear if he has a new attorney.

Authorities believe James Craig poisoned his wife’s protein shakes with cyanide and tetrahydrozoline, found in eye drops. Angela became sick in early March 2023 and died shortly after being hospitalized with severe symptoms. Initially, investigators believed her death was caused by arsenic and cyanide poisoning, but the coroner attributed it to cyanide and tetrahydrozoline. Evidence includes Craig’s internet search history and purchases of potassium cyanide from Amazon, which he claimed his wife asked him to order.

James Craig’s business partner became suspicious of the cyanide purchase and alerted authorities. At a court hearing, Craig’s defense lawyer stated there was no direct evidence linking him to his wife’s death. The lawyer withdrew from the case last week, citing concerns about Craig’s actions. Jury selection for the trial has been indefinitely postponed.

These developments shed light on the ongoing legal battle surrounding Angela Craig’s death and the accusations against James Craig. The investigation into this case continues as authorities work to bring justice in a complex and troubling situation.
