Meghan Markle’s lifestyle brand, American Riviera Orchard, has faced further setbacks after requesting a three-month delay on its trademark application. Royal biographer Angela Levin claims that trademark restrictions have caused the brand to keep getting pushed back, leading Meghan to be very angry as she is unable to proceed with sales. If the issues are not resolved within this extension period, the entire process may need to restart, potentially adding another year to the process.
Levin suggested that a simple solution would be to change the brand name due to its similarity to another trademark in the Montecito area. The delay is a result of a protest lodged by Harry & David, owners of the ‘Royal Riviera’ trademark, which resulted in a “non-final officer action” from the USPTO. Despite limited releases of homemade jams to select celebrities, no products have yet been made available for public purchase through the brand’s website.
Levin also questioned whether Prince Harry would return to the UK to see the Royal Family while Meghan continues with her lifestyle endeavors, noting their “professional separation.” With Meghan sticking to the brand name and making things more complicated, it remains to be seen how the situation will be resolved and when the brand will finally be able to move forward with its launch.
