President-elect Donald Trump has announced his intention to nominate Charles Kushner, a real estate developer and father of his son-in-law Jared Kushner, as ambassador to France. Trump praised Charles Kushner as a business leader, philanthropist, and dealmaker who will represent the country’s interests effectively. He also mentioned the work Jared Kushner did in his previous administration, particularly on Operation Warp Speed, Criminal Justice Reform, and the Abraham Accords. The elder Kushner was previously sentenced to two years in prison in 2005 for tax evasion, witness tampering, and illegal campaign donations, but was later pardoned by Trump in 2020. Chris Christie, who prosecuted him, referred to the case as one of the most loathsome crimes he had ever prosecuted. The nomination of Charles Kushner as ambassador to France comes as part of Trump’s effort to strengthen America’s partnership with one of its oldest allies. Additionally, Trump highlighted Jared Kushner’s previous work in the White House and expressed confidence in the Kushner family’s ability to further diplomatic relations between the two countries.
