The House Committee on Ethics was divided on whether to release a report on former House member Matt Gaetz, who has been nominated for U.S. attorney general. The report allegedly contains findings on sexual misconduct, drug use, and other allegations against Gaetz. Despite opposition from Republicans on the committee, House Democrats are pushing for the report to be made public to ensure a thorough vetting process for Gaetz’s nomination. Gaetz has denied all allegations and has been under investigation since April 2021. Financial records obtained by ABC News show Gaetz paid two women who were witnesses in the investigations. Meanwhile, Vice President-elect J.D. Vance has been accompanying Gaetz to meet with Senate Republicans, while some lawmakers are concerned about the lack of transparency surrounding the nomination process. The Senate Judiciary Committee will need to vet Gaetz’s nomination, with Republicans set to gain control of the chamber in January.
