How to Watch, When to Watch, and What to Know

The holiday season in New York City is kicked off with the Christmas tree lighting ceremony at Rockefeller Center. This year, Kelly Clarkson will be hosting the event, which will be televised live on NBC and streamed on Peacock as part of the “Christmas in Rockefeller Center” special. A star-studded lineup of music stars is scheduled to perform at the event, including the Backstreet Boys, Jennifer Hudson, Dan + Shay, and the Radio City Rockettes. The tree, a 74-foot-tall Norway spruce from Massachusetts, will be adorned with over 50,000 multicolor LED lights and topped with a Swarovski star. After the ceremony, the tree will be lit daily from 5 a.m. to midnight until mid-January, with a 24-hour display on Christmas Eve. The tradition of the tree lighting ceremony dates back to 1933 when workers at Rockefeller Center first erected the tree. In 1951, the lighting ceremony was televised for the first time. The tree will be donated to Habitat for Humanity after its display, where it will be used to build homes for those in need. This annual event marks the beginning of the holiday season in New York City and is a magical experience for locals and visitors alike.
