Three men have been charged with stealing over 1,200 pairs of Air Jordan 11 Retro shoes, valued at more than $311,000, from a train parked in the Mojave Desert in California. The theft was reported by railway police after a shipping container carrying Nike merchandise was separated from the train in Amboy, California. Nike had placed a GPS tracker in the shipment, which led investigators to a U-Haul truck in Anaheim where the stolen shoes were found.
The suspects, Bryan QuinteroEcharravia, Bernardo Romeroquintero, and Olegario Flores, are facing charges of grand theft, receiving stolen property, and possession of burglary tools. If convicted on all counts, they could face up to three years in state prison. It is unclear if the men have legal representation at this time.
Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer emphasized the determination of law enforcement to bring organized theft rings to justice, stating that perpetrators will be caught and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. A BNSF spokesperson did not comment on the case. This incident highlights the risk of engaging in organized theft and the consequences of such criminal activities.
