In preparation for the upcoming early signing period, the Kansas University football team experienced a setback in its recruiting efforts. Linebacker Kenyon Rivera, originally committed to KU, decided to flip his commitment to Memphis instead. This news leaves the Jayhawks with one less freshman linebacker for the upcoming season, as Rivera was one of two linebacker commitments in the class.
Rivera, a native of Buford, Georgia, had initially been impressed by KU’s resources and stadium project during his official visit. However, he ultimately chose to attend a Group of Five school closer to home. With this flip, KU now has 15 commitments for the 2025 class, down from the previous count.
This recruiting cycle has been more tumultuous compared to the previous year, with several flips affecting the Jayhawks’ commitments. Despite losing Rivera, KU managed to flip running back Justin Thurman from Notre Dame, among others. The early signing period is set to begin soon, and the Jayhawks will have to navigate these changes in their recruiting class.
The team still has commitment from Georgia wide receiver Jackson Cook, and they will be looking to build up their class before signing day. The news of Rivera’s flip to Memphis serves as a reminder of the unpredictability of college football recruiting and the challenges faced by programs in securing commitments from high school prospects.
