The International House of Prayer-Kansas City, which has been dealing with sexual abuse allegations against its founder Mike Bickle, has announced plans to close its doors and transition into a smaller, more mission-focused organization. The decision was based on the organization’s inability to sustain its current infrastructure due to significant losses each month.
The news of the closure was first reported by The Roys Report, citing leaked recordings and emails from IHOPKC staff. The transition will involve eliminating stipends and work emails over the next few months. The new organization will continue with night and day prayer in a church context, but with fewer compensated staff members and more volunteers.
The turmoil at IHOPKC began when allegations against Bickle surfaced in late October, accusing him of clergy sexual abuse. Despite initial denials from IHOPKC leaders, an investigation in January found that Bickle had engaged in inappropriate behavior, including sexual contact and clergy misconduct.
The decision to close comes amid ongoing criticism and calls for a “true” third-party investigation by a group supporting Bickle’s accusers. In early February, a woman came forward with allegations that Bickle sexually abused her as a minor in the 1980s.
As IHOPKC prepares for this transition, current and former members have expressed mixed emotions. Some feel heartbroken over the organization’s downfall, while others are calling for accountability and justice. The move to close IHOPKC demonstrates a significant shift in its operations and leadership as it navigates the aftermath of the abuse allegations.
