Pompeo’s PAC Endorses Klemp in Kansas Senate Race Amidst Tensions
TOPEKA – In a notable move, the Champion American Values PAC, led by former U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, endorsed Republican candidate Jeff Klemp for the Kansas Senate seat representing parts of Leavenworth and Wyandotte counties. Pompeo, who served as President Trump’s top diplomat from 2018 to 2021, expressed that Klemp’s business success and community service make him a suitable leader for the challenges Kansas families face.
Klemp, a candidate from Lansing, aims to unseat incumbent Senator Jeff Pittman, a Democrat from Leavenworth who has held the seat since his election in 2020. Pittman responded to the endorsement, downplaying its significance in the highly competitive race. He criticized Pompeo for being out of touch with Kansas constituents and framed the endorsement as a sign of desperation from Klemp with the election just days away.
Pittman emphasized his own track record of delivering for the community and boasted a list of endorsements from prominent organizations, including the Kansas Fraternal Order of Police and the Kansas National Education Association PAC, highlighting his local support.
In contrast, Klemp praised Pompeo’s endorsement as a significant boost for his campaign, acknowledging the former Secretary of State’s dedication to the nation and aligning with their shared values.
As the election on Tuesday approaches, the endorsement marks a critical moment in the campaign, with both candidates seeking to sway voters in a closely watched race in Kansas politics.
