A police officer and a suspected shooter were injured in a shooting incident at a Midtown Atlanta building that houses a Four Seasons hotel and residences. The officer had non-life-threatening injuries, while the suspect’s injuries were unspecified. The man fired from the 33rd floor balcony of the building, using multiple guns, in response to a dispute with a building worker. There were no other reported injuries from the gunfire.
Police attempted to negotiate with the suspect to come out of the residence, but he refused. Eventually, the police breached the unit, evacuated the 33rd floor, and took the suspect into custody. The injured parties, including the officer and the suspect, will be investigated, with the suspect facing charges of aggravated assault.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation will investigate the officers’ response to the incident. The shelter-in-place order for the area was lifted, and the police requested that people continue to avoid the area as the investigation continued.
The incident occurred in the residential part of the high-rise building that is not managed by the Four Seasons hotel. The safety and security of guests and employees remained a top priority for the hotel. The building includes the Four Seasons hotel, residences, and office space. The Atlanta Police Department was praised for its swift response in resolving the situation without loss of life.
