Kansas City Offers Free Rides to Polls on Election Day
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – In a significant move to enhance voter participation, Kansas City has announced a service offering free rides to polling locations for the upcoming election on Tuesday, November 5, 2024. This initiative, named "Vote Your Voice," is a collaborative effort between the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority and IRIS, a local ride service provider.
The service aims to ensure that all residents, regardless of transportation availability, can fulfill their civic duty by casting their votes. According to the Kansas City government, IRIS will provide free rides to and from polling stations, operating for 14 hours, starting 30 minutes before the polls open and concluding 30 minutes after they close.
To facilitate this service, IRIS will expand its fleet with ten additional vehicles, including four larger-capacity vehicles for group transport, ensuring that voters can conveniently reach their designated polling stations. Furthermore, IRIS will utilize push notifications and text messages to inform users about the service in the days leading up to and on Election Day.
Residents wishing to utilize this service can easily order rides through the IRIS app. By using the keyword "POLLING," users can generate a list of polling locations in their area. IRIS services cover the entirety of Kansas City, including adjacent municipalities such as North Kansas City, Riverside, Gladstone, and Liberty.
Kansas City officials emphasize that the "Vote Your Voice" initiative represents their commitment to providing essential services and ensuring that all eligible voters have the opportunity to participate in elections. For additional information regarding this initiative or the IRIS services, residents can visit the City’s official website.
