The Kansas Jayhawks men’s basketball team is gearing up for another exhibition game against Washburn following an 85-69 loss to Arkansas. Key players Hunter Dickinson, Rylan Griffen, and Shakeel Moore, who missed the Arkansas game due to injuries, will be back in action for the upcoming exhibition. While Dickinson may still be limited due to a foot sprain, Griffen and Moore are expected to play. Coach Bill Self acknowledges that improvements are needed after the loss to Arkansas, particularly in defense against ball screens and in transition.
The Jayhawks will have the opportunity to work on these areas against Washburn, a Division II team picked first in the MIAA preseason poll. The game will also serve as an introduction to Allen Fieldhouse for freshman Flory Bidunga and the newcomers on the team. Lawrence native Zeke Mayo will look to bounce back from a lackluster performance against Arkansas, with Coach Self urging him to be more aggressive on the court.
The exhibition game against Washburn will also be a chance for Coach Self to assess potential redshirts, including guard Jamari McDowell. With the season opener against Howard approaching, Self will use the game to make final decisions on player rotations and strategies. Overall, the Jayhawks are looking to build on their early-season performance and showcase improvements before the start of the regular season.
